Living a life with a purpose – 2 Corinthians 5:17-21

living a life with purpose-

Purpose is defined is the reason for which something exists or is created or is done. Living your life with a purpose will help you fulfill why God created you .Purpose puts a demand on everything God or man has ever created. People, friendships, items, exams, seasons, animals have a specific purpose of why they exist.

In John 9:4, Jesus Christ makes a profound statement – I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is the day: the night cometh when no man can work.  In this scripture, Jesus teaches us to understand the need to take advantage of opportunities and the urgency to act.  The night is daily season created by God for a man to rest and prepare for the day ahead. Without the knowledge about the purpose for which an item is made, abuse is inevitable. We tend to abuse what we don’t value and that is the same as purpose.

Living a life with a purpose

In Genesis 1:26-28 And God said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

God ultimate purpose for man was for man to manage the earth. Men are managers! However, we were created for more in Christ Jesus.

3 Reasons for Creating Us

1.    For His Own pleasure – Rev 4:11

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure, they are and were created.

God expresses His Love and delight for the creation of every living thing in Gen 1: (verses 4, 12, 18, 21, 25), each text explains that whatever God created, He saw that it was good. Remember that God has emotions. Seeing man brings delight to God. This comes with great joy to know how valuable you are to God. God is proud He made you in His image. You are not a mistake!

2.    To bring Glory to God. – 1 Corinthians 10:31

“Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31

We are created in His Own image and this is not only a privilege but a responsibility as well. There is an expectancy to live out the God kind of life if we claim to represent God. For example, it is a privilege to be a citizen of a country (which comes with its benefits as well), but as an ambassador, you are tasked to put out a good behavior to give your country a good name. In 2 Corinthians 2:15, For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those are being saved and among those who are perishing. You represent God on earth, make every decision considering the consequences on the purpose for which you were created.

Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV)

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden…. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

3.    The Great Commission- Matthew 28:18-20

Matthew 28:18-20 New International Version (NIV)

18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

We are called to as believers not only to bring Glory to God but there should be a result of the manifestation of the Glory of God, and that is to draw people to God through Christ. The Holy Spirit can convict people to accept Christ but it takes a man to preach the good news -The Gospel. Faith comes by hearing, and by hearing the Word of God. Unbelievers can only be saved when the Gospel is preached to them.

It is our purpose as to help the world understand who created them to be. You are not an accident. Find that purpose and pursue with every energy you have in you.

Pray with us: Father in the name of Jesus Christ, guide my steps and help me identify and understand the reason I was born.
